Overall Responsibilities: 

AKM Semiconductor, one of Asahi Kasei Group Companies (Asahi Kasei is global Japanese chemical company), is seeking an Application Engineer who has 3-5 years of experiences to support technical promotion and implementation of connectivity products into various customer applications and hardware systems. The main purpose of this position is to bring customer insights to new the product development, sales and marketing teams through technology insights, customer focus, and process discipline to contribute to the commercial success of the company. The ideal candidate for this position must thrive in a small team environment working under general supervision with review and advice from Manager and can set own work sequence and pace.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interface with customers to help define new products for characterization and general applications testing.
  • Provide pre and post customer support including: comprehension of customer application, creation of customer demonstrations, consultation with clients for product selection & design assistance, on-site optimization, troubleshooting and general Q&A.
  • Build hardware/software prototypes to verify new product feasibility.
  • Design and build new product evaluation and demo boards,
  • Assist in the evaluation and debug of new product design.
  • Benchmark competitor products, specifications, process optimization and manufacturing transfers
  • Implement new products or enhancements of existing products
  • Maintain product data and documentation
  • Design and execute experiments to solve problems and make improvements.
  • Lead technical presentations and product demonstrations: [equipment, accessories, and instructions] to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain sales technical literature current. Assist Sales Engineers and management in identifying customer's specific performance requirements and recommend appropriate AKM Semiconductor's product to meet those requirements.
  • Represent AKMS at trade shows and conferences as a technical liaison for AKMS.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

 Knowledge of:

 

  • Demonstrated proficiency to interact across various functions within AKMS including sales/ marketing new product development, planning, and manufacturing.
  • Significant knowledge and demonstrated ability to lead independent work in a project or team environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of current trends and business practices as they relate to the Semiconductor field.
  • Significant experience and knowledge of AKM QMS.

 Ability to:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Critical Thinking skills: Ability to think strategically & tactically.
  • Interpersonal skills: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change and/or flexible as business situations arise.
  • Communication skills: Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical product information and provide advice to management
  • Ability and be comfortable working in a multinational environment and understands how to leverage cultural diversity.

 Technical Skills:

  • Interpersonal skills: necessary to maintain effective working relations with all levels of personnel.                                                                                                      
  • Ability to design in (or assist customers to design in) AKM Semiconductor products into their various software applications and hardware.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and working experience with Windows Operating System [ability to navigate through directories/folders]

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering or related Engineering major is required.
  • At least 3 - 5 years of technical management and/or product management experience including customer interface.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer focused, specification driven product development and commercialization in a B2B environment in electronic materials industries.

 

  • Research experience in a technical or scientific field.

 

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Bilingual skills in Chinese or Japanese a plus
