Job Overview

The Operations Reliability Engineer will be responsible for supporting ongoing efforts to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of all production assets in APNA including Fowlerville, MI and Athens, AL. This engineer will report to the maintenance department and work closely with cross functional teams to ensure the plants run safely, reliably and produce the highest quality material possible. As the business leader for reliability, the engineer will have responsibility for setting the overall maintenance and reliability strategy for all APNA production sites and will help ensure that targets for asset reliability and efficiency are achieved. The Reliability engineer will also support numerous capital improvement projects from inception to implementation aimed at improving the safety and reliability of operations.

 

Job Tasks

  • Develop, implement, and monitor programs such as Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, Condition-Based Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance, and FMEA programs.
  • Set an overall APNA spare parts strategy and implement it (which could include shared spare parts between APNA sites).
  • Analyze maintenance data to identify trends in equipment and organizational performance. Use results to develop equipment maintenance strategies to optimize equipment uptime, reliability, and efficiency to achieve business goals. 
  • Develop key maintenance and reliability measurements and set targets used to measure progress against the maintenance strategies
  • Conduct investigations and lead root cause analysis of equipment failures that affect product quality, equipment uptime and plant capacity. Monitors the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Support capital projects with specification and design reviews with a special focus on equipment maintenance and reliability. Develop project alternatives, scopes of work and financial justification for projects. Assist in developing capital project programs for new equipment and major repairs.
  • Participate in the creation, review and implementation of best practices Maintenance procedures and policies to be used across APNA Sites
  • Works to develop Best Practices in maintenance and reliability to be applied across all areas of the business. Liaison with engineers, operations, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects
  • Provide technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs and evaluating equipment.
  • Assist in identifying and providing training to maintenance and production related to improving asset reliability.
  • Be active in promoting Environmental, Health Safety and Quality. Lead by example, show positive attributes in these areas daily.

 

 

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Licensures, and Certifications)

  • Minimum: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Extensive project management experience and problem-solving skills to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience with extruders, controls systems, motor drive systems, and material conveyance systems would be a plus.
  • Three to five years of experience directly involved with maintenance activities, reliability and/or engineering improvement projects preferred.

 

Required Skills

  • Self-motivated individual with good organizational, collaboration and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple and ever-changing priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Reliability engineering experience with a demonstrated track record in driving continuous improvement.
  • Practical experience with Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs along with development and implementation of asset strategies.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and lead cross-functional teams through a root cause analysis/problem solving process.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and maintenance programs/methodologies.
  • A thorough knowledge of production operating processes, equipment, and materials, as well as critical analytical skills are needed to effectively evaluate equipment performance and problems.
  • General knowledge of project management and a demonstrated ability to prepare and execute design packages that will improve safety, operability and reliability of the plant equipment.

 

Work Environment / Physical Demands / Travel

  • It is expected this person to have a balance between "hands on" work in the field as well as office environment
  • Travel domestically and internationally: up to 20%
