Job Overview

Product Development Lab Technician position at Asahi Kasei Plastics North America (APNA) manages the technical data required to characterize polymer compounds at Asahi Kasei Plastics and will be responsible for supporting molding laboratory and set up of new polymer characterization equipment.  The position will work closely with the product development team and the polymer testing laboratory.  The position requires strong attention to details, initiative, good communications skills and a basic understanding of polymers, polymer processing and polymer characterization. The position provides potential for career growth with performance.


Job Tasks

  • Data Management Maintain Technical Data Sheets, Statistical analysis of data, Review & update of external product database with design data, upload lab data to Microsoft Sharepoint.
  • Support the testing of advanced polymer characterization equipment:  fatigue, creep, microscopy.
  • Provide injection molding support to laboratory including preventive maintenance


Qualifications (Education, Experience, Licensures, and Certifications)

  •  Associates degree in polymers, polymer processing, polymer characterization, or plastics technology required

Required Skills

  • MS Office & Enterprise Software experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of thermoplastics and compounding.
  • Basic understanding of molding and thermoplastic forming processes.
  • Knowledge and experience in operating Extruder, Molding Machine, Plastic Testing Equipment, Computers
  • Conceptual understanding of Statistics for data analysis & decision-making


Work Environment / Physical Demands / Travel

  • Laboratory environment
  • Sits, walks, stands, walks stairs. Lifts 50 lbs.
  • Occasional supplier or customer locations and APNA office sites
  • Minimal, up to 10% travel to Athens, AL
