JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Design Engineer plays a key role in developing new water disinfection products from conception through design, simulation/analysis, test/validation, and production that leverage technical rigor, meet customer requirements, and are cost effective. The Design Engineer ensures all aspects of product manufacturing (including test plans, hardware, documentation, BOMs and costing) are in place for the successful and on-schedule production release of a new product. A strong DFM background and the ability to collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines at different geographical locations worldwide are essential to the success of this position.   

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Identify manufacturing partners and drive DFM improvement initiatives at early stages in product development.
  • Use specialized software to create models and drawings of products; organize and maintain existing engineering records.
  • Research new materials and methods of development; construct prototypes and confirm designs with manufacturing team.
  • Ensure components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards.
  • Create and maintain FMEAs, Control Plans, Material and Part Specifications necessary to support business goals.
  • Determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness for designs.
  • Analyze data using sound statistical methodology in order to drive improvements on lifetime, reliability, cost, and yield over variables such as material, method, equipment, and environment.
  • Develop strategies to resolve difficult problems utilizing test results, analytical data, statistics and problem-solving tools.
  • Work closely with R&D, Operations, Product Management, Applications and Quality to accomplish these tasks, as they relate to sample, pre-production and full production release of a product.  
  • Participate in communication with overseas team members at irregular hours and travel overseas as necessary ~10-20%.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE

 

Requirements:

 

 

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Graduate level education preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in design for manufacturability, design for cost, and subcontractor selection
  • Deep knowledge of the processes and materials used to create flow cell assemblies and a proven understanding of the link between design rules, industry capability and the specific processes required to meet various capability levels
  • Exceptional team communication skills to interface with internal cross-functional teams and subcontractors
  • Familiar with manufacturing technology and manufacturing process management
  • Proficient in engineering 3D CAD software
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
