Asahi Kasei Bioprocess America, a global bioprocess product supplier, is seeking a highly energetic and self-motivated Field Service Engineer. The ideal candidate in this role will be primarily responsible for scheduled preventive maintenance and customer support for products covered by warranty and service contracts.  The qualified candidate will successfully respond to customer complaints, delivering effective problem diagnosis and implementing corrective actions. Additionally, they will support the products of Asahi Kasei Bioprocess America including chromatography, filtration, testing and dilution skids in addition to chromatography columns. The successful individual will have an in-depth knowledge of controls, instruments, design, construction, operation and automation of process equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with customers, by phone, via e-mail, and in person regarding service visits: planning, scheduling, scope, expected duration, parking, shipment of parts or tools, and expected resources the customer may need to supply.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, and software routine maintenance and repairs on a customer's site with no direct supervision on schedule, safely, and while positively representing AKB.
  • Observe, diagnose and repair a broad range of mechanical, electrical or controls-related issues.
  • Independently diagnose problems, research solutions and leverage a wide array of resources such as product/instrument user manuals, testing with service utilities, contacting a component manufacturer directly, personal professional networks & experience, etc.
  • Serve as first point of contact for an emergency product failure in the field calm the customer, clarify the problem, collect relevant historical perspective, identify root causes and propose solutions.
  • Schedule customer visits for maintenance and repairs, arrange travel, parts shipments, customs clearance ensuring alignment of expectations.

 

 Qualifications:

  • Technical or trade school degree required. University degree in biological sciences preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience working with process equipment, especially in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industries.
  • Familiarity with pumps, valves, instrumentation (flow meters, pressure transmitters, conductivity sensors, pH measurement, UV optical absorbance spectroscopy), fittings, and analytical measurement tools.
  • General understanding of QA concerns in a cGMP environment and ability to follow internal and customer QA procedures and test protocols.
  • Must be energetic, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, comfort communicating with potentially angry customers, and patience with being watched while working.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills for mechanical, instrumentation, PLC.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:

  • Estimated 40% travel both domestic and international (valid passport required)
