The Product Engineer plays a key role in developing new products from conception through design, analysis, test/validation, and production that leverage technical rigor, meet customer requirements, and are cost effective. The product engineer ensures all aspects of product manufacturing (including test plans, hardware, documentation, BOMs and costing) are in place for the successful and on-schedule production release of a new product. A strong product characterization and test background and the ability to collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines at different geographical locations worldwide are essential to the success of this position.

  • Tasks include developing test procedures, hardware, and software using automated test equipment or lab equipment, validating test measurement accuracy, characterizing device performance, conducting data analysis, and generating documents.

  • Create and maintain process FMEAs, Control Plans, Work Instructions, Material and Part Specifications for the Test area necessary to support business goals. Assist test technicians in troubleshooting test equipment and system issues.

  • Determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness for test programs. Improve capacity, throughput, and handling.

  • Manage product validation, including preparing, reviewing, and presenting test reports consistent with safety and quality standards. Work with internal and offshore test facilities to release products to production.

  • Analyze data using sound statistical methodology in order to drive improvements on lifetime, reliability, cost, and yield over variables such as material, method, equipment, and environment. Set test limits and production allocation rules.

  • Develop strategies to resolve difficult problems utilizing test results, analytical data, statistics and problem-solving tools. Develop and establish systems to deal with these problems in the future.

  • Work closely with R&D, Operations, Product Management, Applications and Quality to accomplish these tasks, as they relate to sample, pre-production and full production release of a product.

A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2-3 years' experience in test program development of LED devices strongly preferred. Preferred knowledge of LabVIEW and instrumentation hardware. Exceptional team and communication skills to interface with internal cross-functional teams and subcontractors.
